The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning major changes in the national team after the T20 World Cup.
In this ‘cleanup operation’, some players and the national selection committee will be sent home based on their performance in the T20 World Cup and previous rounds. Wahab Riaz, former Test fast bowler may also lose his place and there are suggestions to replace the national selection committee.
Speaking at a press conference in New York on Monday, Mohsin Naqvi said that the national team needs major operations, not just minor ones.
Sources said the changes will be made based on reports from captain Babar Azam, head coach Gary Kirsten, senior manager Wahab Riaz and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood. The report of former director Muhammad Hafeez will also be reviewed. Hafeez accused the players of choosing money over division in the team.
His report after the tour to Australia and New Zealand was very important. After the World Cup, Azam Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Usman Khan, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim are unlikely to retain their place in the squad.
Sources said that a group of three senior players in the Pakistan team are blackmailing PCB officials under the influence of agents. A few months ago, they pressured the PCB to significantly increase their wages for the central contract. Last year, these three players managed to blackmail the Chairman, Chief Operating Officer and PCB officials in the assembly to secure the promotion. Surprisingly, all three players have the same manager.
Shadab Khan has a close relationship with these three players and their release is also possible. However, if Shadab performs well, all the batsmen can survive.
