It has been witnessed and recorded that amongst the South Asian countries, Pakistan encounters an alarming number of reproductive disorders, mainly polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOs), in their female population. The soaring Vitamin D deficiency in Pakistani females allied with PCOs results in severe comorbidities in the females resulting in abnormal menstruations, infertility and abortion.
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) has lately incepted a Woman Healthcare Centre and Maternity Home (WHCCMH) being spearheaded by a renowned national gynecologist and obstetrician Dr. Sheikh Safeena Sidiq. The Centre is dedicated to the provision of quality healthcare services to women and their families. They offer a range of services, including prenatal care, delivery services, postpartum care, and family planning. The services are not only confined to the employees and students of IUB but also are open for the people from outside IUB at most economical rates.
Considering the soaring trend of reproductive disorders of females, the Centre has initiated a series of awareness seminars and hands-on training workshops throughout Bahawalpur. One such mega-awareness session was organized by the Department of Physiology, IUB in which Dr. Sheikh Safeena Sidiq, Director WHCCMH/Senior Medical Officer IUB along with her team presented an elegantly exclusive lecture on prevalent reproductive disorders in Pakistani females, their prevention, control and treatment. She reiterated that the it was a dire need of time to break the persistent taboos in the country regarding reproductive disorders in women and to collaborate with all stakeholders for fruitful results.
Prof. Dr. Umer Farooq, Chairman Physiology, IUB, while presenting his welcome note, endorsed that his department’s utmost facilitation and collaboration for future such endeavors will be with the WHCCMH, IUB. He also proclaimed that soon the department will be organizing an exclusive hands-on training workshop in various allied aspects of reproductive disorders.
The session was organized by Dr. Musadiq Idris, Assistant Professor Physiology, moderated by Dr. Sikander Abbas, Lecturer Physiology, and the concluding remarks were presented by Dr. Zia-Ur-Rehman, Associate Professor, Physiology, IUB. The session ended with a certificate-awarding ceremony.
