The Federal Minister of Communications, Privatization and Investment Board Abdul Aleem Khan visited Skardu on Monday and inspected the damage caused by landslides on the main highway connecting Gilgit and Skardu.
He reviewed the current situation with the Director General of Border Affairs Major General Abdul Sami and the Federal Secretary for Communications Ali Sher Mehsud.
He said, the main highway that connects Gilgit and Skardu should be given more attention. Aleem Khan said that all measures should be taken to prevent rockfalls and landslides and to protect people and property.
He asked the Border Works Organization (FWO) for immediate action to conduct a comprehensive survey of this highway using heavy machinery. He said that at least adequate action can be taken in case of any untoward incident.
Abdul Aleem Khan briefly met the director general of FWO Major General Abdul Sami and Federal Secretary for Communications Ali Sher Mehsud and assured that they will continue their efforts to repair the highways in the Northern region as soon as possible.
Also, maximum equipment and manpower will be deployed in common areas where people will not face problems.
