Islamabad: The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Friday launched a partnership to promote green growth, environmental protection and food security in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
The partnership was announced at a seminar titled “Ethiopia-Pakistan Brotherhood in Green Heritage Initiative” organized by the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad and SDPI. He was accompanied by H.E. Prime Minister Climate Change Coordinator Romina Khurshid Alam, H.E. Dr. Abid Qayyum Sulehri, SDPI, Executive Director, Government Officials, Civil Society and Media.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan H.E. Jamal Baker praised the Prime Minister for his efforts as a climate change coordinator and wished him well in supporting all efforts to reduce the negative effects of climate change.
H.E. Ambassador Jamal Baker Abdulla announced this initiative to H.E. said to be supported by Dr. Abiy Ahmed is the Prime Minister of Ethiopia who came to power in 2018 and made Ethiopia peaceful, stable, prosperous, clean environment, stable and green. It was officially launched in 2023 at the Embassy in Pakistan.
Starting with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Ethiopia has announced the aggressive implementation of green development initiatives, which include the elimination of fossil fuel-based vehicle imports with the goal of net zero by 2050.
Commenting on the initiative, he said that the relationship between man and nature, fostering synergy and cooperation for common goals, respecting humanity and politics, economy, social and environmental welfare have various dimensions.
He said the mobilization of mass media, community ownership and leadership by top leaders of the country were the reasons for the success of the initiative.
The Ambassador said that the FDR Embassy is proud to partner with SDPI and the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change and this initiative will be launched in the mega cities of Punjab, Sindh and other provinces.

H.E Romina Khurshid Alam, Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change and Environment, addressed the seminar by phone with Ambassador H.E. Jamal Baker Abdullah for acting as a bridge between Ethiopia, Pakistan and Africa.
We are ready to collaborate and collaborate to promote the Green Legacy initiative. In addition, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination is working to establish the International Green Parliament and we need Ethiopia’s help and where we can work together to protect mother nature and learn from each other’s success,” said Romina Khurshid Alam.
Dr. Abid Qayyum Suleri, Executive Director of SDPI, said that the Ethiopian Ambassador has implemented the Green Legacy initiative in Pakistan which has changed the flora and fauna of Ethiopia and has greatly affected employment and food security.
He said the Ethiopian government is making progress with other developing countries facing the climate crisis to achieve resilience against environmental degradation.
Finally, the Executive Director, SDPI handed over the memorandum and the latest edition of SDPI to the Rector.
