The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday announced the appointment of former Pakistan opener Mushtaq Ahmed as the spinner coach of the national cricket team ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The addition of Mushtaq is a strategic move to strengthen Bangladesh’s spin department, replacing the venerable Rangana Herath, who held the position for two years.
The 53-year-old veteran, whose impressive career spanned 144 ODIs and 52 Tests, said in thanks, “It is a great honor to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach.”
Mushtaq, who won the 1992 World Cup with Pakistan, has a wealth of experience as a spin coach for various international teams including England, West Indies and most recently Pakistan.
In his role, Mushtaq aims to pass on his knowledge and experience to Bangladeshi players, considering the opportunity to dominate the international stage.
Mushtaq Ahmed’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Bangladesh cricket as they prepare to face Zimbabwe in a 5-match T20 series before traveling to the United States for the T20 World Cup against the hosts.
