The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) objected to the constitution of the bench in the Supreme Court’s suo motu notice in a letter written by six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Stressing the party’s stand, PTI spokesman Rauf Hasan advocated the establishment of a full court to deal with the crucial matter and suggested that the proceedings be televised live.
Rauf lauded former Chief Justice Tasadeq Hussain Jilani’s decision to step down as head of the commission of inquiry citing his commendable reputation.
In addition, he suggested convening a convention of lawyers to discuss the concerns highlighted in the High Court judges’ letter.
The letter, authored by six judges of the Islamabad High Court, expressed concern over the undue interference of secret agencies in judicial matters. A commission chaired by Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani was initially tasked with investigating the matter.
However, after Jilani’s resignation, Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa constituted a 7-member larger bench to oversee the case, a move contested by the PTI.
