Eight Pakistan Army personnel were martyred and 10 terrorists were killed in the recent attack on the Bannu Cantonment.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR), the media wing of the armed forces, security forces foiled a terror attack on Bannu Cantonment when 10 terrorists tried to breach its defenses on the morning of July 15.
The terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into one of the walls of the cantonment, but the forces foiled the terrorists’ attempt to enter the area, ISPR said, adding that the wall was destroyed in the attack.
In addition, eight security personnel were martyred in the attack. Martyrs include Naib Subedar Muhammad Shehzad, Hawaldar Zil Hussain, Havaldar Shehzad Ahmed, Lance Naik Sabz Ali, Sepoy Ashfaq Hussain, Sepoy Subhan Majeed, Sepoy Imtiaz Khan and Sepoy Arsalan Aslam.
In response to the attack, security forces quickly neutralized all 10 terrorists, preventing further casualties. The ISPR appreciated the timely and effective action of the armed forces which saved many lives during the attack.
The group has also used Afghan territory to launch attacks on Pakistan in the past.
Pakistan has continuously alerted the Interim Afghan Government regarding the use of Afghan territory by such terrorist elements and requested it to prevent such continuous attacks. Pakistan has also requested the Afghan authorities to take effective action against such terrorist elements.
The ISPR expressed determination against terrorism and reiterated that the Pakistan Armed Forces will continue to defend the country and its people against all threats coming from Afghanistan. Following this incident, security and counter-terrorism measures will be strengthened.
