Six people were killed in a road accident on the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway near Kallar Kahar on Monday.
According to the report, the accident occurred due to the failure of the brakes of the gas container, which then went out of control and collided with other vehicles in the Duz stretch of the highway.
After receiving information about the accident, a rescue team rushed to the spot and shifted the body to a nearby hospital.
Known for its dangerous curves and steep slopes, the accident site has been the location of many accidents in the past.
The incident joins several other deadly incidents in the same area. In June last year, a bus accident near Kallar Kahar killed at least 10 people and injured 25 others.
Similarly, in February 2023, a bus carrying passengers returning from a wedding ceremony overturned due to a flat tire, killing 14 people, including women and children.
A police officer said the Salt Range section of the highway was particularly dangerous, with many accidents involving difficult curves and slopes.
He said caution is needed when driving through this mountainous area.
On September 26, 2011, a school bus accident on this route killed 33 students. Despite the high incidence of accidents, the area lacks adequate medical facilities.
Although a trauma center was built in Kallar Kahar at a cost of $26.7 million, it was not functional because the Punjab government could not recruit doctors. This facility later became Tehsil Central Hospital.
