LAHORE: Wildlife Rangers have apprehended three people allegedly involved in the illegal capture and trade of wild birds during an enforcement operation in Lahore, according to the Lahore Region Wildlife Department.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Senior Wildlife Ranger (SWR) Azhar Ali Bhatti after surveillance of the suspected activity began the previous night. Wildlife Rangers working in civilian clothes raided a location and detained a dealer along with two alleged accomplices.
450 Wild Birds Recovered
The wildlife team recovered 450 birds during the operation, including House Sparrows and Yellow-throated Sparrows. According to the department, the birds had allegedly been captured for illegal trade.
Legal proceedings against the three suspects are underway, with an FIR being registered at Garhi Shahu Police Station.
Following the operation, the recovered birds were released into their natural habitat.
Wildlife Department Steps Up Enforcement
The Wildlife Department said it remains committed to protecting native wildlife and taking action against the illegal capture, possession and trade of wild birds.
Officials said surveillance and enforcement operations would continue across the province to curb wildlife crimes and protect biodiversity.
