Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi announced the launch of 24/7 passport services in Karachi and Lahore on Sunday.
Minister Naqvi took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce the launch of the initiative and show its potential to transform people’s access to passport facilities.
This decision is an important step to streamline the passport service and solve the problems faced by citizens in obtaining important documents.
Minister Naqvi highlighted the importance of his role in facilitating smooth access to passport services at any hour of the day.
The Home Minister has confirmed that at least one passport office in each city will be open 24/7 from May 7.
The Regional Passport Office at Awami Markaz Sharea Faisal, Karachi and the Regional Passport Office at Bagh, Lahore will be the key facilitators of this pioneering service.
However, there is a shortage of laminated paper, which is an important part of passport production. Imported from Germany, this glass is integral to ensure the security features of the passport.
With thousands of passport applications daily, the shortage has led to delays in issuing passports, highlighting the need for vigilance and proactive action to overcome logistical bottlenecks.
