According to rescue workers, Eid al-Fitr was a disaster, with 10 people killed in different incidents over three days.
Officials said the accident occurred in several areas of the Indus River and at a local dam where people had gathered to celebrate Eid and were killed.
Rescue workers said a pair of brothers were among the victims, although the father was rescued. Five bodies were found during the ongoing rescue operation. Efforts are on to search for the remaining five victims in the waters of Attok Khurd, Mallahi Tola and Bagh Nilab.
Officials said the district administration has introduced Section 144, which prohibits bathing in rivers, canals and dams during Eid. Despite the ban, people defied the ban and jumped into the Indus River.
The rescue workers demanded the administration to ensure implementation of Section 144 by the employees and prevent further incidents.
